New Orleans

See you later, alligator

Interview by : Christophe Cusseau

Where?
New Orleans in the French Quarter

When?
February '98

How long?
A very short week

How did you get around?
I stayed in town, so I didn't rent a car

Someone you meet
The Mardi-Gras posters illustrator

Your fondest memory
I stuffed myself with oysters

Your worst memory
We had made reservations for the first two nights only and nearly spent the rest of the stay under the stars. Luckily, the hotel had a cancellation.

Recollection of sceneries
Cemeteries. Often they're below sea level so people don't bury their dead; instead they build mausoleums.

Fives senses = fives sensations
Vision = orange houses
Sound = trumpets
Smell = the sea
Taste = Cajun spices
Touch = warm temperatures

Your advice
Reserve your hotel room before departure. Extend your stay to visit neighbouring sites: Baton-Rouge, Lafayette, the bayous, etc.

The souvenir you brought home
A poster signed by the Mardi-Gras illustrator

Recommended guidebook
I used the Ulysses Guide to New Orleans
